MINISTRY OF SOCIAL JUSTICE AND OUTREACH
Jesus was a social prophet who spoke out against injustices and worked to bring about equality and inclusion for all people in the new realm or kingdom of God. We carry on his prophetic ministry by challenging injustices and inequalities and striving to meet practical and basic human needs in our time and place.
In the last year we organized a team to sponsor a young immigrant from Iran who is settling into a new and safer life in Canada and presently we are helping a family of 5 (3 generations) from Columbia.
We keep a cupboard stocked full of non-perishable foods for those who walk off the street hungry and in need of nourishment.
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
Once a year for a day we gather to help on a build for a family who will become homeowners for the first time.
Every year we purchase gift cards or purchase gifts and wrap presents or donate food to help families have a more abundant Christmas.
Occasionally we host the 5 L’Arche communities living in our neighbourhood (people with developmental delays and caregivers living together in community) for a worship service, refreshments and time of fun and friendship in our church home.
This dedicated team of people meets to explore ways to support the LGBTQ community.
In cooperation with the Interfaith Council we are striving to eradicate poverty and breakdown the isolation of people suffering from impoverished lives due to addiction, mental health issues, disabilities, lack of family support and misfortune. To this end we are exploring ways for our church to become Community Hubs accessible to all people around us.
